In late February and early March we went to Africa for the first time. We took a photo safari to Kenya and Tanzania. The photo safari is different from regular tourist trips to the area in that more time is spent with the animals waiting and watching for something interesting to happen or the right light to come. This means you get to know the animals much better than you otherwise would. Our group was small--only six guests in three vehicles each with a local guide/driver. There was one photography instructor from South Africa who rotated among the three vehicles spending a day at a time in each.
Here are some highlights from the trip.
Our first stop was Amboseli National Park in Kenya where we saw huge numbers of elephants.
We moved on to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania where we saw too many animals to list.
From Serengeti we moved south to the Ndutu region of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We spent twice as much time here as anywhere else and saw many Cheetah and Lions as well as large herds of grazing animals.
We finished with a day and half in the Ngorongoro Crater which supports an amazing quantity and diversity of life in a small area.
